In der Küstenstadt Mahebourg im Südosten der Insel gelegen, zeigt dieses charmante kleine Museum eine Fülle mauritischer Geschichte. Zu den Exponaten gehören das fast vollständige Skelett eines Dodos, alte Landkarten, Waffen und Artefakte, die aus Schiffswracks und Seeschlachten geborgen wurden. Auch die reiche koloniale Vergangenheit der Insel lässt sich anhand der Sammlung alter Münzen und Möbel entdecken.
Das Museum ist in der Burg Gheude untergebracht, einem großen kolonialen Herrenhaus, das Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts erbaut wurde. Das heute zum nationalen Kulturerbe gehörende Gebäude verfügt über einen 12 Hektar großen Garten, in dem eine farbenfrohe Rekonstruktion eines kolonialen Dorfes zu sehen ist.
