If you are looking for some of the island’s best beaches, a huge lagoon with clear water and a cooling breeze for most of the year, east Mauritius is for you!
Belle Mare beach is one of the longest stretches of sand on the island and the perfect place to take it easy under the casuarinas. You’ll find unspoilt beaches on the east coast and you can easily catch a boat or catamaran to islands such as Île aux Cerfs, which is a great place to spend the day on the beach or play a round of golf.
A visit to Trou d’Eau Douce is a must. This fishing village is rich with history and the streets are lined with restaurants. If you get up early enough, you can watch an incredible sunrise and spot local fishermen heading out to catch your supper! You can take a bicycle ride along the coast and explore Roches Noire and the waterfront, or visit the fantastic market in Central Flacq.
Climb Lion Mountain to get a sweeping view of the lagoon, take a dip in the pool of a waterfall or spend the day at La Vallée de Ferney, a wildlife reserve waiting to be explored by quad bike or on foot. Last but not least, Bras D’Eau National Park is a great place for a walk through the giant Ebony trees in search of rare birds.
We hope you’ll come and visit the east of Mauritius soon!
