Welcome to the south of Mauritius!
This region has a wild and rugged vibe. It’s where you’ll find authentic fishing villages, beautiful wide beaches and waves crashing against volcanic rock cliffs. It’s a more low-key and peaceful area where you can go in search of natural beauty, such as Rochester Falls or Le Souffleur water spring, which shoots into the air like a geyser.
Discover the island’s tea history by walking The Tea Trail. You’ll pass through three plantations, spot grand mansions and have the chance to try flavours such as vanilla tea (an island favourite).
Follow paths to hidden beaches such as Pomponette and Riambel; and don’t miss a visit to the sacred lake of Ganga Talao during your time on the island. This is an important Hindu site, so take time to learn about the Maha Shivaratri pilgrimage and admire the 33-metre high statue of Shiva.
For a guided hike through a nature reserve, hop on a boat to Ile aux Aigrettes. This protected island is home to incredible wildlife including the pink pigeon and Mauritius fody. Ready to cool off? The clear waters of Blue Bay Marine Park are known as one of the island’s best snorkelling spots.
We’re looking forward to seeing you in the south of Mauritius!
