If you want to gain some height, La Citadel in Port Louis, also known as Fort Adelaide, is the place to go. An old stone fortress built on the hill by the British to defend the capital, it now houses shops and serves as a venue for shows and other cultural events.
Built in honour of the wife of King William IV, the construction of the fort began in 1830 and ended 10 years later in 1840. Boasting 360-degree views of Port Louis, it’s now a popular spot to watch the sunset or take pictures (and kids will love playing around the old cannons)!
