Head to the west coast of Mauritius, between Black River and Grand Riviere Noire, and you’ll find La Preneuse Beach. The beach is best known for being home to a well-preserved Martello Tower (a small defensive fort), as well as a number of cannons that sit along the white sandy beach. The beach is protected by sandbags along the shoreline, so some parts of the water are not easily accessible, but it is a quiet beach and perfect for a walk.
You’ll see fishing boats bobbing in the water and many boat trips depart from this area, so you can explore the ocean and hope to see local pods of dolphins which are often spotted along this coastline. La Preneuse Beach is also a great spot to watch the sunset and you can see the towering Le Morne Brabant mountain in the distance.
