Horse racing and history can be enjoyed at Champ de Mars

Surrounded by a panorama of hills, Champ de Mars is a thoroughbred horseracing track in the centre of Port Louis. It was first inaugurated in 1812, making it the second-oldest racecourse in the Southern Hemisphere. It was also the location for Mauritius’ Declaration of Independence in 1968.

The racecourse is still in operation today. The racing season kicks off from late March to early December with most events taking place at weekends. Enjoy a day at the races Mauritian style with seats in the grandstand, VIP rooms and plenty of drinks and food. When those horses cross the finish line, the energy of the crowd is incredible!
