You’ll find the largest Hindu temple in Mauritius in Triolet. Maheswarnath Mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has beautiful white pillars, intricate floral design and vibrant sculptures. Also known as Triolet Temple, this is one of the oldest temples in Mauritius and it was founded in 1888 by priest Pandit Sanjbunlall Ramsoondur.
Inside, you’ll find a Shiva Linga, idols of goddess Parvati (the wife of Lord Shiva) and Nandi, the sacred cow. Within this tranquil complex, you’ll also find a few smaller temples. It is well worth a visit if you are in the north of the island and want to learn more about Hindu culture.
