La Vanille Nature Park

See the giant Aldabra tortoises in La Vanille Nature Park

La Vanille Nature Park is a conservation-led wildlife park in Riviere des Anguilles in the south of Mauritius. It has a big colony of Aldabra giant tortoises, one of the largest species of giant tortoise in the world. The average carapace (shell) weighs around 250kg! Some Aldabra tortoises have lived to over 100 years old.

Visitors to La Vanille Nature Park can feed lemurs, watch the crocodiles being fed and get hands-on in the interactive farm, while youngsters can let off steam in the playground. Budding paleontologists will love the Fossil Museum, which is home to hundreds of fossils from Madagascar, and all of the family will enjoy spotting the park’s iguanas, monkeys, chameleons, freshwater turtles, deer, wild boar and Mauritian bats.
